Because UVB is filtered away in the atmosphere when the sun is low, we can only form vitamin D in the summer months at our latitudes.
The more exposed skin area, the more vitamin D is formed. After about 30 minutes in strong sun, approximately 10,000 IU is achieved. Then no further production occurs in the skin.
During the winter months, we can not form any vitamin D in the skin in the Nordic region.
